Due to the earlier suspicions of bad capacitors due to the error message coming from the hardware test CD, I purchased a new logic board and had the local Apple authorized tech install it.
It's no longer giving the error message about a bad CPU.
Unfortunately, it still won't boot and now has a new error message during the hardware test:
AHT Error Code: 2I2C/1/1 0x00000096
When he's not running the hardware test, it boots to the grey screen with the Apple, runs for a few minutes with the fans, and then shuts down on its own. He tried booting with another hard drive in case there was an issue with the hard drive, but he had the same results.
He's at a loss. Any ideas for him. Thanks.
