That's what I thought until I tried using the UMax software with an 
Astra 2400U scanner.  It worked okay except some issue with permissions 
that was easy to work around.  IIRC I did have to go into the Apps OS 9 
folder and make the whole scanner app folder have full R/W access to anyone.
