Hi Ken,
That is a very interesting observation you made, and one I tend to agree
with. People who generally kill have other mental issues
besides a violent game telling them to go and kill. Generally, killers
are angry at the world for some reason, they may have a over all lack of
compassion for his or her human companions, and in serious cases killing
gives them enjoyment on a level most of us don't understand.
I remember a case in Cleveland several years back when the NES was still
going strong and popular. Bad Dudes had just came out, a game I also
had, and apparently two kids my age got in a fight over the game. The
one kid murdered the other kid, because the other kid refused to let him
play the game.
Naturally, the shrinks got on tv saying that the kids had been exposed
to extremely violent content, and it may have influenced them to react
to each other violently, and then it went to far and kid A killed kid B.
Then and now I felt it was an excuse for bad behavior. Anger like
anything else is a choice. You might not be able to control feeling
angry, but you sure can choose how you are going to handle it. You might
walk away, take a deep breath and calm down, or you can kill kid B just
not for letting you play a turn on the game.
Although, the kids involved were something like 11 or 12 years old so
there sense of self-control may not have been well developed, but I am
certain those kids knew the diference between right and wrong.
