Hi, Yeah, I agree. In order to do Mario right a developer would have to drop the classic Nintendo sounds and add in a lot of modern sound effects. When you break a block hear the sound of a rock breaking. When walking on the ground hear a real foot step sound. When encountering a lava pit play the sound of boiling lava. When firing a fireball hear a real fireball being passed from left to right. These things would likely improve not detract from an audio Mario game. Though it wouldn't suit Nintendo purest. One game that would sound really good using modern sound effects is Double Dragon. Must of the sounds would be punches, kicks, jumps, pain sounds, swing ball bats, poison darts, pistils, etc. All of these sounds are common every day sounds that are easy to come by. Even background sounds like New York City streets, the warehouse, forest, and cliff levels are pretty easy to make. The Megaman side-scrollers would also be pretty easy to make in modern audio as well. Megaman's plasma beam, the flame thrower, snipers, robot tanks, etc is all very doable. I am certain I could come up with a sound theme that would not detract from the games original enjoyment/intent.
