Hi,
yeah, before I lost my sight I had all three of the original Double 
Dragon games. I loved playing them. The first one was pretty much a walk 
along beat-m-up, but Double Dragon II definitely got a lot more 
interesting. I also liked the chopper level. I loved throwing the bad 
guys out of the chopper. I can imagine how that would sound in todays 
sound effects. Hearing the bad guys scream as they fell out of the 
chopper door to the ground several thousand feet below. That would be 
wicked cool.
Anyway, if it were not for the threat of getting my pants sued off by 
Nintendo I'd love to make a Mario clone. I suppose if I made a 
completely free open source job I could get away with it, but you never 
know. Nintendo is very very protective of their Mario copyrights, and 
actively hunt down offenders. Since DSG hasn't been bothered I guess our 
little community is for now safe from that, but who knows.
