Hmmmm odd, mostly I've seen it as gmt, rather than universal. This makes
sense sinse for at least 6 months of the year it's actually the time
England, ---- and by extention grenich, actually work on.

No, I would imagine he is talking about UTC, the universal time code,
that is used when trying to schedule things internationally. Once upon a
time it was called GMT but was later converted to UTC.
