Hi Lori, Oh, I am sure. What brand of headphones do you have, and what is the make and model?
I have an HP Digital Headset which is a little less tempermental than most and my Logitech Digital Headset usually works properly when plugging it in and removing it, and now that I think of it I may have an idea what could be causing problems for you with your headset. When you remove the headset do you just unplug it, or do you go to your system tray and click safely remove hardware. If you don't properly deactivate the headset that can cause plug and play issues for Windows when you plug it back into your computer. Try using the safely remove hardware option if you don't already and then plug your headset back in. See if that makes a difference. I found on my XP desktop if I just unplug the headset without using the safely remove option when I plug it in Windows fails to recognize it when I plug it back in. Cheers!
