Just to be clear, to the best of my knowledge Gears works fine on 10.5.5, I
just wanted to state that explicitly for the sake of people new to this
thread.

Yours sounds like a completely different problem than the dhoughal's.  In
dhoughal's case he doesn't see the "Google Gears Settings..." menu item in
the Safari menu which means that the InputManager isn't installed correctly
on his machine.

Gears is installed correctly.

So, a couple of questions:
* What language is your Google account set to?
* When you install Gears on Firefox, do reader & docs work for you?
