Hi Jan, The Gears settings dialog is supposed to be localized to the language of your OS, I've filed http://code.google.com/p/gears/issues/detail?id=738 for the PRODUKT_VERSION string.
Regarding the problem your having with enabling Google Docs and the download page, I'll look into that and get back to you.
