Hello,
I'm fairly new to geckos and have wondered about all the calcium dusting
(mostly at gecko mealtime because I think it is a real pain). My question
is, what do wild geckos eat that is so full of calcium? I know it must be
something, and that adults might sometimes find a pinky mouse, but beyond
that my impression is they are insectivores.
I feed mealworms (and crickets when I'm forced to by non-mealworm eaters)
that have been gut-loaded on food dusted with calcium powder and powdered
milk. Is there any data to support that this would supply enough calcium?
Also, I've read that leopard geckos will actually lick calcium powder from a
dish when they need it. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks,
Jodi
