Hey Chad, there is not much that I could add to this, thanks Leann! Keep feeding her with the technique you are using if she does not voluntarily take food. I would just offer fruit babyfood and supplementation at this point. When they are not taking food you have to make it as tempting as you can and work in the nutrition (T-Rex Day gex food) along the way as you can.. A tuberculin syringe held to her mouth might be a good thing right now to get her going. Make sure her temps are up in the 90s in her basking spot. Mist her gently and directly so she does not dehydrate. Good luck, and let us know how you do!

Your statement "high lumens obviates UVB for MOST day geckos" is not
correct -- it is correct to say day geckos who are kept under quality light
(high lumens and high CRI) and sufficient quantities of dietary D3 and
calcium, not need supplemental UV lighting.

Looking at all your husbandry, I think that she is just nutrient deficient
from breeding. Calcium deficiency doesn't necessary cause weight loss and
reluctance to eat as quickly as lack of nutrition. P. klemmeri are no more
supplement sensitive than other geckos, but due to their smaller bodies,
keeping klemmeri well fed is more the challenge, especially breeding
females. I keep my breeding klemmeri females fed daily. Males have the
normal three feedings a week, but to my females I provide extra feedings
each day so that they can keep up the nutritional needs of their body and
the developing eggs. I keep calcium & D3 in small lids in enclosures.

Get her going again by gut loading crickets well and feeding her daily.
Make sure that she gets calcium and D3 at each feeding. T-Rexs' Day Gecko
Food has big quantities of vitamin A which can slow her ability to take up
the calcium. When you use T-Rex, add calcium/D3 to balance out the vitamin
A overage.

Roger. Duh, what was I thinking. Setup is a large
Oceanic tank of unknown gallonage 30X24X12 (lxwxh).
Lighting provided by 4 compact fluorescents of 60
watts each. Temp range of 75-90 during the day, 73 at
night. Misted twice daily, humidity in the tank
builds up nicely at night. Been with the male 1.5
years, shes approximately that old. I was running
under the "no uvb required if high lumens provided"
philosophy, but I think thats the culprit. Diet has
been FF, crix, and the Trex day gecko diet, mixed with
baby food, honey, and calcium. FF and crix dusted
with rep-cal and herptivite. She produced two
clutches, probably too close together.
My diagnosis: calcium deficiency due to insufficient
UVB and two clutches. Im going to hazard a guess on
this one, but some people have mentioned how
supplement sensitive klemmeri are. Im going to say
that although the high lumens obviates UVB for MOST
day geckos, if youve got a reproducing female
klemmeri, this may not be sufficient. An aggressive
and "interested" male doesnt help either. Thought I
had cooled them sufficiently....but I was wrong.
She is now getting some Neocalglucon and plenty of
uvb. Ive seen her perk up a bit, but still not eating
if I dont put the nectar right on her snout. If by
tomorrow I dont see her in hunting mode, Ill force a
wax worm or maybe FF larvae on friday. Other
suggestions? Maybe a mush of various bugs instead of
the wax worm and/or FF larvae? Ive got plenty of bugs
to choose from...termites, houseflies, WW, FF of two
species, crix, earthworms, etc...
Any help appreciated, shes thin.
Chad

Hi all. Ive got sick klemmeri female. She seems to
have had a bad shed, and then the male was
harrassing
her a bit too. Anyway, she started to lose weight,
so
I separated her. She was listless, and wont eat. I
have managed to dribble a little "nectar" mix on her
snout a few times, but she doesnt appear to be
eating
anything more than that. She has perked up slightly,
but its been a week now and she isnt putting on
weight
as far as I can tell. She has access to fruit
flies,
houseflies, pinheads, mini-wax worms, anything that
she would normally respond to, but doesnt seem
interested. How can I get her eating again?
Thanks,
Chad

Hi Chad,

We need details to help... set-up, temps, vitamin
supplements, lighting,
how long has she been with the male, how old is she,
etc.
