I'll second that!

Hi Chad,

Just wanted to say -- so sorry about your klemmeri! Others have given great advice so I won't try to add to that.

Hi Leann and Julie. Leann, your statement was more
accurate, I was trying to be brief and didnt mention
that I was adding calcium to the T-rex mix, as well as
dusting all prey items. However, I was not feeding
daily, and I think the first mistake was in not
separating the female from the male after she laid. Unfortunately, she passed in the evening. Im
incredibly bummed, but perhaps I learned a good
lesson: these beautiful little animals need more
attention than I was prvoviding. Im just sick about
losing her. But, I cant let that distract me from the
others and providing more fully for them. Thanks to all who offered advice. It was a tough
loss, but I think my care for these little guys may be
better in the future because of it.

BTW, Ive got two juvies that are growing quickly, and
the adult male seems to be doing well. Any advice
about indtroducing another female to him when the time
is appropriate? I am going to surmise that it
shouldnt be done until the female is fully grown, but
beyond that?
Thanks,
chad

Roger. Duh, what was I thinking. Setup is a large
Oceanic tank of unknown gallonage 30X24X12 (lxwxh).
Lighting provided by 4 compact fluorescents of 60
watts each. Temp range of 75-90 during the day, 73
at
night. Misted twice daily, humidity in the tank
builds up nicely at night. Been with the male 1.5
years, shes approximately that old. I was running
under the "no uvb required if high lumens provided"
philosophy, but I think thats the culprit. Diet has
been FF, crix, and the Trex day gecko diet, mixed
with
baby food, honey, and calcium. FF and crix dusted
with rep-cal and herptivite. She produced two
clutches, probably too close together.
My diagnosis: calcium deficiency due to insufficient
UVB and two clutches. Im going to hazard a guess on
this one, but some people have mentioned how
supplement sensitive klemmeri are. Im going to say
that although the high lumens obviates UVB for MOST
day geckos, if youve got a reproducing female
klemmeri, this may not be sufficient. An aggressive
and "interested" male doesnt help either. Thought I
had cooled them sufficiently....but I was wrong.
She is now getting some Neocalglucon and plenty of
uvb. Ive seen her perk up a bit, but still not
eating
if I dont put the nectar right on her snout. If by
tomorrow I dont see her in hunting mode, Ill force a
wax worm or maybe FF larvae on friday. Other
suggestions? Maybe a mush of various bugs instead
of
the wax worm and/or FF larvae? Ive got plenty of
bugs
to choose from...termites, houseflies, WW, FF of two
species, crix, earthworms, etc...
Any help appreciated, shes thin.

Hi all. Ive got sick klemmeri female. She seems

to

have had a bad shed, and then the male was
harrassing
her a bit too. Anyway, she started to lose

weight,

so
I separated her. She was listless, and wont eat.

I

have managed to dribble a little "nectar" mix on

her

snout a few times, but she doesnt appear to be
eating
anything more than that. She has perked up

slightly,

but its been a week now and she isnt putting on
weight
as far as I can tell. She has access to fruit
flies,
houseflies, pinheads, mini-wax worms, anything

that

she would normally respond to, but doesnt seem
interested. How can I get her eating again?
Thanks,
Chad

Hi Chad,

We need details to help... set-up, temps, vitamin
supplements, lighting, how long has she been with the male, how old is

she,

etc.
