If you can get any of them to explain why, or what features they prefer
in other software, we'd of course be interested to hear.

Not code, so won't fit under the remit of gSoC, but it would in general
be very interesting to do / see results of some proper usability studies
for the suite so we can focus on what issues people really hit when
learning the software, and what we can do about them.
