I've often wondered the same thing. The only reason I
can think that Apple hasn't gotten into the x86 market
is that they would have to support drivers for all the
devices out there, for which Microsoft does not do a
great job. Apple has always aimed at providing an
excellent computing experience, so maybe they didn't
want to duplicate Microsoft's mediocre one.

BTW, you _can_ run Darwin (the guts) on x86, just not
Aqua (the GUI): http://www.gnu-darwin.org/

Same here! Now that there is a new Mac in a price
range I am willing to pay for, I am very interested.
