Yes it is a pain to maintain. But sometimes, albeit rarely at most organizations, it's necessary. It's nice to have that type of granularity when you need it. Maintaining it is why the effective permissions dialog in Netware that Brad mentioned is so important. I find it hard to believe that Windows had no way to view the effective permissions of a resource before XP.... but i don't know much about NTFS permissions. ray
