Yes, it is not true. :) I've never had issues running RAID on consumer drives. Sure, devices certified for RAID might spend less time trying to recover data which is a bit more optimal, but only in the situation where your drive is actually failing. If my RAID blocks on read for 30 seconds once a year when a drive is about to die I can live with that, assuming mdadm doesn't figure out it should give up sooner than that. Rich
