Well, the dish I use is wide and heavy, and the base of the flower pot is also wide - so they can't push it down. But sure, you can glue the two parts together - just air it well outside the cage after gluing, to get rid of any fumes. As for making a hole in the pot, I use a hammer to bang *gently* on the handle of something sharp and flat (like a screwdriver). Usually it will not break the whole pot (the break is not symmetrical, but who cares...).
