I find that cheap reddish clay pots, tend to shatter funny, AND
chip and crack off too much.  I can cut them using a 'ring saw',
that cuts stained glass and tile.  However, I don't like using
stuff like that IN a gerbil's cage, because of the way the pots
flake, chip, and crack...and the way gerbils like to gnaw everything.

Stick to a small cardboard box.  If they chew it, it doesn't matter,
and you can get them another one.  And put the food right on the
bedding, it saves the cost of whatever dish you're using as it will
either be gnawed or buried.
