>What do you do with the little body after death?

Many vets provide cremation for deceased pets, but at a high cost. I priced
it where I live and the price was about $40-80 depending on whether you want
a private cremation (and get ashes back) or mass cremation.

Our backyard is small and mostly brick patio, so burying is not an option.
In Fairbanks, we would bury the gerbils in the woods by our cabin under the
leaf litter or in the snow, hoping the ravens would remove the carcass
before summer. But, that doesn't work here in Tucson.

Since we have moved to Tucson, we have lost one rat and one gerbil. In both
cases, we carefully wrapped the body in tissue paper and placed in a shoe
box. The box was carefully taped up and a short message was written on top
of the box. This is carefully placed in the trash. Yes, it's not ideal,
but we really cannot afford the cost of cremation for so many gerbils.

Your question is not morbid. It is an important discussion.
