I have always had my gerbils cremated privately. We live in an apartment,
so we don't have a yard to bury them in, and I couldn't live with disposing
of them in a mass cremation or in the trash. It is a little more costly,
but considering how much I care for and love them while they're alive, I've
never minded spending a little bit for their final expenses.
