If I have to perform a necropsy, that is done first...and if samples
must be taken to the vet, the remains of the departed are kept
until those are processed in case it is needed.
After that, a baggie with a handful of bedding, the remains wrapped
in a paper towel, and about a spade deep (8-10 inches) under where
I'm slowly paving around my formal koi pond.
If there is a chance of infection, then it gets double baggied
and sent out to the trash. [still wrapped in a paper towel
and a handful of bedding to pad out the bag]
