Where does this all end? If the FAA were to relax the requirements to include Ercoupes, they would be opening up a can of worms that would never end. It seems to me that a 415C... ...the original Coupe... probably meets the spirit of the regulation. And a 415D does not. Any plane that roars down final around 80MPH just doesn't give the duffer enough time to get things sorted out. And the 'D' demands a care in the final stages of landing that just does NOT meet the spirit of the regs. If they're saying that a 7AC or J3 is within the capabilities of a 'Sport Pilot' then the 415C should be there, too. On the other hand, one wonders what these guys are trying to do: certainly the marginal pilot is safer in a 172 than he is in a 7AC or J3. I'd much rather see a rule that put the Sport Pilot in a 172 where he could not fill the back seats than as PIC of a 7AC with his grandson in the back seat. Sorry I'm not on the bandwagon with this proposal. I know I'm supposed to be thrilled.
