Just once I'd like to see one of these old AP/IA's come in with a sheaf of
research in their hands to wave about while they're hopping up and down.
Somehow I think it unlikely to happen, though.

There are FBO's around nearly all areas (there were more before the 
EPA-mandated
tank upgrades) where the word is out "If you buy gas at XYZ, park for a 
while and
drain the sumps thoroughly..."  The fact is, that there are, always have 
been, a number
of poorly-run or shoddy operations out there, or ones with shoddy 
suppliers. Somehow,
I'd be willing to bet that, by percentage, a lot more FBO's have a slug of

H2O at
the bottom of their tanks than modern, EPA-compliant filling stations.

Don't know for sure, but I bet it would take a damn sight less water or 
crud to stop
my AUDI's fuel-injected vundermoteren than an Ercoupe's baby Continental.
