Just once I'd like to see one of these old AP/IA's come in with a sheaf of research in their hands to wave about while they're hopping up and down. Somehow I think it unlikely to happen, though. >Maybe the problems come from gas stations that have poor quality control >or older tanks. There are FBO's around nearly all areas (there were more before the EPA-mandated tank upgrades) where the word is out "If you buy gas at XYZ, park for a while and drain the sumps thoroughly..." The fact is, that there are, always have been, a number of poorly-run or shoddy operations out there, or ones with shoddy suppliers. Somehow, I'd be willing to bet that, by percentage, a lot more FBO's have a slug of H2O at the bottom of their tanks than modern, EPA-compliant filling stations. Don't know for sure, but I bet it would take a damn sight less water or crud to stop my AUDI's fuel-injected vundermoteren than an Ercoupe's baby Continental.
