Autos: Catalytic converters are ruined by the lead in avgas. If the avgas isn't leaded (i.e. 80 octane) then the octane is too low and you either fry the valves or the knock-detector retards the timing to the point of near-uselessness (except that 80-octane is really closer to the RM2 87 octane number most cars tolerate pretty well, again providing there is no lead, unless you drive a car from the 60's in which case it might be lovely). Planes: Still have a lot of materials in the fuel system which aren't even remotely resistant to alcohol which is fairly commonly found in auto fuels, together with other additives which play havoc with older natural and synthetic rubber compounds. The worst case is probably the tank-sloshing compounds used from the 40's through Y2K, most of which slough off in the presence of alcohol...the newer Randolph 'white' sloshing seems to resist just about everything, however: if you look in sloshed tanks and they look Frigidaire white, you're probably okay.
