Gmail's changes, with no option to retain the user interface that has been
in effect for years, displays a certain level of disdain for their
customers -- i.e. Google knows best.
To change the from field and the subject line, it takes 5 clicks:

1. Click the to field, wait for the dropdown, select from field, 2. then
click in from field
to change the subject, 3. click the From field (The Gmail help
documentation is incorrect in describing the steps) It is not intuitive to
hide the subject line option under the "From" field.
4. Then the window with the reply email moves from the lower portion of the
web page to a new position, docked to the right side of the browser. 5.
Finally, click in the subject field text area

I'm using Chrome, perhaps other browsers would handle this bizarre window
position change differently).

BTW, I did provide feedback, as many others did -- I voted with my mouse by
constantly switching back to the former reply and composition mode every
time Gmail prompted or displayed an option for the new version -- I can't
believe Google wouldn't log those sorts of user preference clicks and note
that the new version was disliked by so many.
In fact, every single Gmail user I know said they liked the old interface
and all had opted to continue using it until Gmail slammed the door shut.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Google and Gmail, but I'm saddened
that they seem to be making the same sort of arrogant and stupid mistakes
that oftentimes damaged the reputation and prospects of IBM, Microsoft and
Apple again and again over the years.

thanks for you
