I'll add my favorites:
* They put their own needs to sell shlock above the needs of their
customers (i.e. "Even though a CompSci newbie wouldn't do this,
we'll treat incoming e-mail messages as VisualBasic programs,
because that'll get more people hooked on M$ Office, and we'll
let the customers deal with the inevitable viruses")
* Embrace and extinguish: take an industry or open standard, and release
an implementation that has a few things changed from the standard
so you get all the benefits of the work of the folks that came up
with the standard, yet you still lock in your customer base. Then,
be really pissy about documenting your changes. Example: Kerberos.
Proof: Read the Holloween Document.
