Things like this do happen, and such companies often employ OSS
developers.  For example, Alan Cox works for RedHat.  Ted T'so (author of
the ext2 file system et. al.) works for VA Linux.  These guys are getting
paid to write OSS.

They already did.  Partly by doing the above, and partly by offering IPO
shares to people working on OSS projects.

So what you're really saying is you're bitter and jealous. I can't help
you there.

No that's just wrong.  We hate Microsoft because they write bad software,
which we can't fix, and through unethical and illegal business practices
have forced all of us to live with it.  It has nothing to do with money.

Let me emphasize this, because this is the point that you completely fail
to get:

  IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY. MONEY DOES NOT ENTER INTO THE PICTURE.
THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN MONEY. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN MONEY. THERE
IS MORE TO LIFE THAN MONEY.
