Personally, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for a criminal. If the FBI
took advantage of him -- *good*! He knew he should have gotten legal advice.
He probably thought he could worm his way out of breaking the law, the way he
wormed his way into other systems (no pun intended). He got nailed. He has
no one to blame but himself. Maybe he won't break the law next time.

Just because you do not have bars on your windows does not give me the right
to rob your house.

That is not the issue. Poor administration skills is one problem. Someone
breaking into the systems being administered is another. This loser is not
being punished because someone else had poor administration skills. This
loser is being punished because *HE BROKE THE LAW*.

You do the crime, you do the time.

Not really. Five year olds are generally considered not responsible for
their actions. This guy is. (Of course, I would presume Colt isn't
responsible for the five year old, either. If some lady left her gun
unlocked, and her kid found it and blew her hand off, the only person who
should be punished there is the mother.)

That was stupid. She should never have won a case like that. There is,
unfortunately, no shortage of stupidity in the world.
