Yep, if you're too dumb to exercise your Miranda rights (which I'd be
confident he was told about, the FBI is getting smart enough to know NOT
giving them gets the case thrown out), you deserve it. Note that he broke
the law to begin with. If I leave my front door open, it does NOT give
you the right to enter, much less take from my house. It may be dumb to
leave the front door open, but it's not illegal, and it's not a
justification for illegal actions.

Three sorts of people responsible here:
1. The virus writer. He's in the Phillipines, where, it turns out, this
actually isn't (or wasn't at the time) against the law.
2. Microsoft, for building SW with giant holes. Not necessarily illegal,
but should be held liable after the umpteenth time for flagrant design
errors. At minimum, people / companies should stop buying their SW and
their excuses (personally, I think they ought to be sued).
3. Admins & people who keep running such lousy SW. Not illegal, just
incredibly dumb. Sympathy for those who work for the companies, none for
the companies (and yes, my wife works for a company that won't change -
she has no choice).

Wrong analogy. Again, just because I leave my front door unlocked is NOT
a reason to Enter my house. And, if I catch you there, you better believe
I'll persecute you. Of course, if you're too dumb to listen to the
Miranda rights, I can't say I feel pity for you.
