The thing is, these problems are *not* exclusive to Linux.

In general, OS switches are hard. I've known plenty of people who have
trashed their Microsoft-based system by trying to switch to Windows NT or 2000
from 95/98/Me. I've even seen upgrades within 95/98/Me or NT3/NT4/Win2K hose
the registry or break all the installed software.

Installing a new OS is a hard thing to do, regardless of OS.

Better yet, they provide an 800 number and 90 days of installation support.
That is, after all, the *point* of buying a "commercial" Linux distribution.
What more do you want? There isn't any way to *force* these people to ask for
help when they need it.

Of course, there are plenty of people who buy the $2 CD and don't get
support. But they should be well aware that they are getting what they pay
for.

And whose fault is that? You brag about not running "redhack", but yet you
sure sound like you needed their assistance at the time. Speaking of
PEBKAC...

Now you're comparing apples to oranges. Let's see your grandmother setup a
fully functional Microsoft Exchange server.

And, by the way, I know some grandmothers who would take offense at your
remark. :-)
