Well, I'm sorry, but that just seems silly to me. If you're providing
a link, presumably you think people might want to follow it.
Otherwise, why would you bother to post it at all? It makes no sense
to me that someone would provide a link, and not say a single word as
to why they're providing the link, or what makes it potentially
interesting. And if you're going to the trouble of posting a link,
how much of your time does it waste to add a one sentence description
of what you're posting? If it's not worth your time, why bother at
all? IMO, you're just wasting bandwidth -- it's the equivalent of
spam.

Instead, you'd rather waste my time by encouraging me to follow links
that are potentially meaningless to me. At best, that's no less
presumptuous than my desire to have a brief description of what it is
that you're linking to.

I believe that this forum, and others like it, exist for the purpose
of exchanging ideas and information about a subject in which its
participants share a common interest. If you have an idea, tell us
what it is. If you found someone else's idea, and you want to share
it with the group, I believe you should tell us, at a minimum, *why*
you want to share it, when you post a link to it. To do otherwise,
IMO, does the community a disservice. In such a case, you're
providing data, rather than information. If all you want is data, try
/dev/random. It'll give you all the data you want. And it's almost
as useful as a link with no information.
