If I understand correctly, I don't think this is a bug. I think you may be conflating two types of "double-line" transactions.
(1) View » Double line. This adds a line to each transaction in the register, on which you can type Notes. (The Description field is always available, and I confess I've never found a use for Notes.) (2) View » Basic Ledger / Auto-Split Ledger / Transaction Journal. * Basic ledger shows only the splits that belong to the account in this register. if you want to see all the splits in a transaction, click on the transaction and then click Split in the toolbar at the top. * Auto-Split Ledger is the same except that whenever you are in a particular transaction all splits for that transaction are shown. * Transaction Journal always shows all splits in every transaction in this register, each split on a separate line. Since most transactions contain just two splits, this can look like a "double-line mode". I recommend you try each of these four settings in a register of yours. Now that you know what to look for they should make more sense.
