Maf - thanks, but in "Edit -> Preferences -> Register Defaults", Double
Line is unchecked.
Stan - my view is "View » Basic Ledger".
Let me re-state the problem as simply as I can:
Despite, "Edit -> Preferences -> Register Defaults", Double Line
unchecked, when I double-click an account, it opens in Double Line view
and I must go to "View > [uncheck] Double Line" before the extra lines
disappear and I can get more transactions on the screen.
So it appears GnuCash is ignoring my Preferences.
For further clarify, the extra line that appears shows placeholder text
of "Action" in the Ref column and "Memo" in the Customer column.
Kind regards,

Hi Paul,
The settings in Edit -> Preferences -> Register Defaults may have some bearing
too,in addition to Stan's ideas.

If I understand correctly, I don't think this is a bug. I think you may
be conflating two types of "double-line" transactions.
(1) View » Double line. This adds a line to each transaction in the
register, on which you can type Notes. (The Description field is always
available, and I confess I've never found a use for Notes.)
(2) View » Basic Ledger / Auto-Split Ledger / Transaction Journal.
* Basic ledger shows only the splits that belong to the account in this
register. if you want to see all the splits in a transaction, click on
the transaction and then click Split in the toolbar at the top.
* Auto-Split Ledger is the same except that whenever you are in a
particular transaction all splits for that transaction are shown.
* Transaction Journal always shows all splits in every transaction in
this register, each split on a separate line. Since most transactions
contain just two splits, this can look like a "double-line mode".
I recommend you try each of these four settings in a register of yours.
Now that you know what to look for they should make more sense.

Not sure if this is the right email address to send this type of

accounts usually default to double-line view anyway meaning I have to go

Is this a bug?
