The 'Jews' who were targeted by the Inquisition were not because they were ethnic Jews, or Jews who professed and practised the Jewish faith (these were discriminated against, but not subject to the Inquisition), but Jews who had converted to Christianity, but were suspected of - as Christians - practising rituals of their former religion in secret.
