Actually, you haven't. As the coordinates are needed to create a static map image in the first place, you don't need to deconstruct the image url to get the coordinates back. That's why the responses have been less than helpful: you're going about it the wrong way. Unless you really are simply scraping someone else's page, of course. Please don't write off people trying to be helpful: see this link http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#id308223 and the sixth point down: Give good value -- don't suggest kludgy workarounds. If you've set your mind on a kludgy workaround, it's not going to stop people telling you you're doing the wrong thing. > I just had one question - and I will bet hamburgers it is a valid and > true method of some deeper mapping coordinates/geo understanding. > Google has documents written about differnet kinds of coordinate > conversions but I just can't figure out what is going on with this one > and what they are doing. You could just have searched the group. I found http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Maps-API/msg/5689fdcc00d6c12a after a few minutes. I haven't tested it to see if the method still works, but even if it doesn't it might give you a pointer or two. I look forward to my hamburgers...
