As a student of Mandarin, I find your illustrations very interesting. However, I would point out that Google Translate produces similarly distorted renditions when translating German to English, where the difficulties should hugely diminished. As others have pointed out previously, Google Translate simply doesn't understand grammar.
It would be instructive if you posted one or two examples of Google Translate renditions into English of original Chinese statements of the same concept written first with Cantonese grammar and secondly with Mandarin grammar. Then one could see whether GT's grasp of Mandarin grammar is actuallly any better than that of Cantonese.
