I kind of thing gaming is a lost cause. Microsoft have effectively sewn up the PC gaming market with DirectX(DX). Even tho Vista and DX10 have caused a lot of problems and OpenGL is just as powerful as DX, the marketing support that M$ give to developers is such that enough games houses will use Direct X, this reducing the number of games that port easily to other platforms such as Linux and OS X.
On the other hand, most PC users aren't hardcore gamers, and play casual flash/java games that run fine on Linux. There are also enough good quality games that can fill the niches that gamers want (ask me, I'll start listing them). But, if you want the latest Windows game.. run XP or even (shudder) Vista as a dual booted, games only install. Oh.. and I recommend trying Puppy Linux for a netbook. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "gOS Linux" group.
