I've been a Mac user since the 80s. I bought a Walmart Everex with
Rocket installed to have a low-cost web surfer for the SO, who never
uses any programs but the browser and the games. I can attest to what
you have said. I have to use Windows at work. I cannot imagine why
anyone would go from linux to WIndows unless forced to. The Dell at
work takes forever to do anything. I start it up and it's ten minutes
to collect the first email. Click on a program, or a document, or a
web link, or even type in a word and then just wait. Shutting down
takes another ten minutes. Meanwhile, my $200 Walmart special starts
in about 45 seconds and shuts down in 10. Also, when I plugged in my
Everex, with absolutely no prior experience with linux, it connected
with my internet provider instantly and automatically.

gOS looks kind of familiar to a Mac user, as well, so the learning
curve was not so great. How to install software was the main puzzle,
which I figured out quickly enough.

I also have had the problem of Firefox causing gOS to crash, but
background updates appear to have been fixing the problem, as it
happens rarely now, and that is with a three-year old clicking random
links. Anyway, I assume that could be solved by installing Gadgets,
which I could do any time. I also installed Opera, so the problem with
Firefox is not relevant. (I should say, too, that using a Mac this
long means I have had crashes. Safari was locking up now and then at
one point. But they are so infrequent that there is no comparison to
having to restart Windows every three hours just to keep moving at
all.)

The other very minor aggravation I have with this particular setup is
that the mouse runs so fast. I went in and changed the setting, but it
still is fast, and thus highly sensitive. It takes some getting used
to, but the three year old is managing it when she plays games, so
it's not that big a deal.

I did install the memory upgrade in the Everex, but I have to say that
it still does not play videos very well. The idea of gOS is to be a
completely web-oriented system. So for it not to work well with
Youtube etc is a drawback. This is probably a hardware issue, though.
