Just a few corrections. Installation and maintenance via ArgusConnect Help Desk and remote support is free. Most who use this service find it excellent. If clients choose to use their third party IT support person, then of course they will pay for that person's time.

 Argus is not open, the
directory is protected, we could easily and automatically send to
Argus users if it was, but this would damage their ability to sell the
sending software.
Where did you get that one from??? The only 2 reasons that the LDAP directory (Argus Users Directory) is not entirely open are 1) A reasonable base of users (GPs) specifically insisted that it be closed to only Argus users. and
2) It reduces the incidence of SPAM.
Nothing to do with 'selling' or commercial advantage.
Medical-Objects remains, from Mid 2005 to this date, the only company
certified to produce Australian standards compliant HL7.
Very commendable; ie paying the cost of compliance testing on a set of messages. Remember Andrew, I was the person that conceived the AHML and was director of the team that developed it. Like MO, Argus handles Standard -compliant meassages but is forced to also handle variants because the pragmatics are that many users can only send/receive non-compliant ones. Everyone is in the same boat.
Many packages
actually don't handle compliant messages well so we can modify it away
from compliance if need be, but we should not have to. Pathology
companies hesitate to spend money to produce compliant messages when
they may not be imported reliably, hence PIT lives on. Some insistence
by users on this front would be a big help, Ask your software vendor
do they reliably support compliant AS4700.2 HL7 messages?
