You can eliminate it yourself. Go into the Growl preferences, in the about
tab, and uncheck the checkbox to check for updates.

We're not OK with direct contact on things like this, since others may run
into the same problem. It's better that someone be able to find the response
if they are searching with a search engine, than to have to answer the same
question repeatedly. This actually improves accountability, since we have
multiple people on this list involved with the project who can help you.
Also, we have lives too, and emailing an individual may end up with no
response for days (this weekend I would not respond to you for instance).

Also, please click the big red link on the front of http://growl.info, which
will likely explain how you have Growl installed in the first place.
