Thanks for the reply. I already apologized above for being grumpy
about this.

That's what I get for being tardy on reading the list. I do understand
being a bit grumpy (I do that occasionally too) when things aren't working
as you would expect.

However, I hope you can appreciate that, from my point of view, the
Growl reminder is kind of annoying. I started getting update messages
for Growl last week. These appear in an usual spot, right near the
upper right of my screen. I do not have other apps that remind me in
this way. When I click the reminder closed (don't update), it just
comes back again in a few days. I work on a government computer, and
we are cautioned about downloading unknow apps or software from the
Internet or going to unknown web sites.

Clicking on the "X" to close the reminder window and not update does
not take me to a web page. Add this to the fact that I don't know
what Growl is, and don't recall downloading it. I understand that it
can come with other apps, or be downloaded without the user's
knowledge. Consequently, I don't know how to turn off the reminders,
and did not know there was a control panel for Grown until I searched
for it. To me, the combination of factors adds up to a somewhat
irritating situation. The result is I then need to spend some time
figuring out what Growl is, and why I have it.

I believe clicking in the middle of the window rather than the X
will download the latest version. I think as part of the installer you
have the option to remove it. Since Growl is optional you will loose
the notifications of whatever applications (lots now) use or attempt to
post them. I suspect you probably don't use these kinds of applications
much since the default location for the bubbles is the upper right hand
corner of your screen.

I've had similar 'silence' from other support lists too. We all bring
our past experience to the table whether we like to or not and I should
have taken such thoughts into account.
