short version: if this is your bag, baby, link to this url:
www.hotgrips.com . groovilicious, baby. dig it.
longer version: i know there are lots on the list _lots_ more experienced
in matters del mundo del moto than i am, but please let me offer this: hot
grips rock. they 101% kick ass. i had them on my tdm and they let me ride
to 10,500' in minor snow storm at half-power setting (old-version) and be
toasty in light summer gloves. it's one of the winter projects i have
slated for the gts so that when all that white crap melts off again i can
motor most of the year. turns miserable cold cranky slog --> warm comfy
bliss. will be putting on variable-control for total tunability. btw, very
much recommend following that little note about making sure the thing gets
wired up to some relay arrangement to make sure no battery drain while motor
off. anyway, check it out yourself at website www.hotgrips.com . somewhere
on the site there's a link to the testimonial site of a luminary iron butt
type telling how awesome they are, as opposed to, i guess, freezing your ass
off starting at your fingers. hope sometime this life to be able to have
chance to do cool stuff like tinker with projects like installing neat
things like this and then get to ride around and report back on how nifty
they all work out in the wind. maybe you'll tell me. ;^) ride well --
ride warm. your pal, -- jim .
ps. hey, i just myself sauntered over to the the grips site and saw a few
changes since the last time i went there some time ago, including a piece
from the gospel source, "motorcycle consumer news," july 2000 issue
(clipped): "One of the things I've come to love over the years about BMWs
is their use of electrically-heated handgrips. Though I thought them at
first to be mostly a silly affectation, I soon found what a blessing they
could be on a cool spring or fall morning - or evening, for that matter. In
those situations, you usually don't have your heavy gauntlets with you, or
don't want to stop riding and change from your lightweight gloves for just
the last hour or two of riding. These times, heated grips are the perfect
stopgap to take the chill off and make the last part of the ride as pleasant
as the first....We've been using Hot Grips for over a year now on a Gold
Wing, and couldn't be more pleased with the results. They were easy to
install (though you have to wait 24 hours for the epoxy to dry), heat up
quickly and evenly, and in every other way function just like the
high-dollar BMW units. For less than a hundred bucks, I'd call them a real
bargain. -Fred Rau"
