Hi Bob ,
You say that you have excessive play in your swing arm bearings at 24Kmi .
It seems a bit early for bearings to go , what sort of play do you have ?
I had some side to side play , which after a closer look just needed to have
an extra shim fitted .
The sort of play i had could be checked by undoing the swing arm and seeing
if their was clearance , between the bearing dust cover and the frame on one
side , when the swing arm is pushed to the other side , as far as i can
remember i fitted a 0.5mm shim to take up the play.
Before i fitted the shim i tried to remove the play by doing the swing arm
nut up nice and tight , but due to the strength of the frame it was
unsuccessful .
When the linkage is disconnected , is their roughness in the swing arm up
and down movement ? if so you probably need new bearings.
If you need to change the bearings you should consider getting the long
bushing in the middle ( your words , so you know what i'am talking about )
it's actually called a collar.
If the bearings are gone this will be damaged and needs to be replaced.
You should replace the dust covers ( my words ) actually called thrust
covers , since they keep out the dirt/dust which cause the bearings to fail
, their are two covers.
You should not need to get a new bolt , unless the bolt has been loose and
the bike ridden while loose , as the shank could be damaged ( unlikely ). Or
the threads on the bolt are damaged ( unlikely ).
Sorry it's a long winded email , but i hope it helps.
atb Nick T
