When my brother in law and I trailer our GTS's out of the flat lands to
heaven, or N Ga.... as the case may be, we use the Kevin Harrington method
for the front. That is using the subframe and passing the hooks through the
headlight adj holes. One mod we made was to shorten the length of the hooks
so they do not push on the plastic after they are hooked onto the bar.
The one thing Pat discovered that made all the difference in the world in
securing them is using two ratcheting tie downs pulling straight down from
the rear foot peg mounts. We had to modify the trailer to accomodate this but
it works better than anything else. The front can be secured with only
moderate pressure and when the rear is cinched down, the bike does not move.
The trailer will flex before the bike moves. I am guessing here, and do not
remember any specifics about not trailering the GTS by the handlebars. I
would suspect most warnings in a training class would have been do not pick
the front end or bike up by the handle bars to remove or install the front
wheel. I will attest to the fact that I have hauled a GTS by itself with a
canyon dancer with satisfactory results. Putting two side by side or using an
enclosed trailer (6ft wide) does not allow the use of canyon dancers. That
mothered the necessity of the ratcheting tie downs from the rear foot peg
mounts. We only have about 7500 miles or so trailering them up to the good
roads...... so it has been tested.
