Here's what i found on a search of the web , about oil consumption , it's
not much help but it shows what someone has already tried on an FZR engine .

The 1995 FZR 1000 i bought has had problems from day 1. After following the
break in cycle for 600 miles, followed by an oil and filter change (no
synthetics), and about 1900 miles, the oil level light starting coming on
way too early, 1/2 down the sightglass, and in fact alerted me to a real
dropping oil level and major oil consumption. Yamaha and dealers diagnosed a
bad level sensor which was replaced but did not help the consumption problem
(imagine that!). The next diagnosis was incorrectly assembled piston rings
which had severly worn the cylinders. New hone and rings was supposed to fix
it. After another 600 mile break-in, oil change, and about 2500 miles, the
same sypmtoms occured again. This time the cylinders were measured to be out
of round, so they were bored to first oversize with new rings and pistons.
Two major jobs for a bike with 5620 miles on it. Now, being very concerned,
I followed the break-in cycle for 1000 miles, with an oil change at the 600
mile point. Now, at 7185 miles, the same symptoms are occuring. The dealers
can't troubleshoot their way out of a wet paper bag and Yamaha USA is
refusing to deal with the problem. I have tried 2 dealers, writing/phoning
the customer service people, and writing the president of Yahama USA. I'm in
the process of picketing the dealers and getting ready to sue Yahama for my
money back. When the FZR1000 works, it is a great bike, but this one stinks.
