Good morning Nick. You're welcome dude but the rest may not be to your
liking. First off you mentioned that you removed the Cat. I'll presume that
you re-installed the 02 sensor on the new setup. This would be just fine.
You also mentioned that you added 4 S&B filters. I'll have to presume that
you have no air box & that you've relocated the little sensor to an
appropriate location where it will do its job & not just look good. All this
being as it should your engine will be happier with it. In an extreme case
you may try checking your coils , spark plug wires, spark plug caps as they
do get used up with time & electrical arcing & the spark gets progressively
weaker. Now I'll try to explain what I can. Putting this kind of stuff in
writing is quite difficult for me, because there are so many parameters. If
your engine is sucking that kind of oil through the tail pipe then nothing
short of an engine job will correct the symptom. You see you should be real
happy that your engine is running at all. I'm sure if it was a carbureted
engine it wouldn't be running or it would be a real nightmare even starting.
Keep in mind that compression tests & leakdown tests are only indicators of
wear but don't really tell much especially when an engine is using oil in
rather large quantities like yours for example because the oil acts as a
sealer. Now take into account that when an engine is freewheeling like at
idle or low load conditions the actual blow-by (pressure loss between the
cylinder wall & piston\ring combination) is consideradibly less than with a
high load condition like when you got a passenger\luggage or under
acceleration. The EFI system is designed to read & adjust things like
burnt\unburnt fuel & air in the exhaust, atmospheric conditions etc.... It
takes these readings & adjusts itself to always give the optimum amount of
fuel for the particular sistuation. If the 02 sensor is reading foreign
material (burnt\unburnt oil) then it will keep trying to adjust the ECU so
that it can find what it was designed for (burnt\unburnt fuel & air ratio).
It doesn't know or care if there is oil or whatever in its readings, it has
a job to do & it will keep trying to compensate no matter the result (smoke
exiting the exhaust). So, if all of your sensors are correctly placed then
I'm afraid that there's not much else to do. If your sensors are not
correctly placed then you may try relocating\replacing them as close to
original parameters as possible & see what happens. If I think of anything
else I'll let you know. After all it's too early to think any deeper than
this. Be good.Have a great day. Good luck. Peter Piazza
