Hi Guys - Merry Christmas from across the pond. It may be winter but I'm still riding (quite mild today) and need your help with a minor problem - that old favourite - the oil light.
Since a recent service (tried a different Yamaha dealer) the oil light has been on more frequently. I'm used to this, of course, and generally know when to judge to refill. This dealer had used a Mobil 10W-40 oil, and I hadn't been able to find any locally so decided to change the oil back to my original choice (Silkolene Super 4). After the change this weekend, and a double check about the level being virtually to the top, I rode off confident that the light wouldn't keep coming on. Wrong! I've done 100 miles today, and every few miles the light will come on, stay on for 4 or 5 minutes, then go out again. I've stayed below 80mph and 6,000 rpm for most of the day. Obviously I checked the level every time I stopped for a while (30 miles; 60 miles; 80 miles) - certainly high enough in sight glass - and on past experience I wouldn't expect the light to come on. So - something must be different. Anyone got ideas on what to look at next? I've had a quick trawl thru' the archives, but not found anything like this, yet. Cheers. Robin
