I fully agree; no bot should be put in production in Guix until:

  1. it has received thorough testing outside of Guix (as was done with
     @guix-cuirass-bot for several months before it was deployed for
     Guix);

  2. there’s consensus on enabling it in Guix;

  3. there are several people behind it with all the information and
     credentials to react promptly whenever something goes wrong;

  4. there’s information on how to report issues and inspect the code
     and infra, which <https://codeberg.org/guix-auto-upgrade-bot>
     currently lacks.

The first aspect is crucial: testing is not just about whether it works,
it’s also about seeing how this impacts developer experience.

Gabriel, can you turn it off for now and look into addressing these?

To be clear, I still think an auto-update bot is something we need. I
can also understand concerns brought up by Sharlatan, namely that
creating one pull request for each leaf package might prove unhelpful
and in some cases—e.g., package collections like the astro
packages—detrimental to quality. That’s why experimentation (point #1
above) is so important.

Thanks,
Ludo’.
