Ok, after seeing some of the comments made thus far - the question I have is, were my numbers more or less on the money, and if so, does it make for a reasonable explanation?
For example, one could say that Magery 3 will never occur in Males because it is a sex linked gene. That being the case, a GM could rationalize it as being way to differentiate mageborn in his game world universe than other universes. But the implications of having a specific mathematical reason for why the numbers show up as they do are perhaps worth pursuing. For example, if Magery 3 is not sex linked - the children born of magery 3 parents will always be Magery 3 children. Why? Because every single recessive gene must be present or every single recessive element has to be present for Magery 3 to occur. If Magery is genetic linked, it appears that it will never "dominate" the gene pool UNLESS every single person who has the elements for a gene that is dominant over the recessive, will dilute the potential for magery to appear. Now, if a GM wants to, they can link a specific genetic trait with mageborn that will always be present. For example, what if dwarfism is always linked to Magery? What if it is that only hazel eyed people can have magery? The list goes on and on. My question therefor becomes: How well do the numbers work in your opinion, and how can one make it better or better supported? What would be interesting to note is that perhaps sterility *IS* a function of Mageborn to the extent that two mageborn cannot have a mageborn child. This might explain why people have to test for it - because two mageborn parents can not have children. Question is - what if a sterile mother takes a fertility potion? Will it permit her to have a child? Perhaps this is the ONLY way mageborns can have children? Lots of juicy concepts that can be utilized by GMs who are world building to the extent that they may seek to make their worlds become all the more memorable. Something to consider perhaps... _______________________________________________ GurpsNet-L mailing list <[email protected]> http://mail.sjgames.com/mailman/listinfo/gurpsnet-l
