You don't want efficient vertols in the setting; they'll completely negate any benefit that legs might provide. Keep the fuel requirements of flight capabilities as high as you believably can, so that mecha can act as a fuel-efficient alternative.
The high center of mass that results from the vertical build could result in a sort of "controlled instability" effect that improves maneuverability, not unlike forward-swept wings on an aircraft. Realistcally, though, this will probably result in a higher ground pressure and the usual off-road difficulties that come with it. To mitigate these problems, you should keep the mecha's size small - I'd tend to avoid designs much taller than four or five yards or so. Mecha are best for urban warfare, where the buildings can make tall-and-narrow more beneficial than short-and-squat. If the buildings are sturdy enough and the mecha are light enough, they might even be able to scale skyscrapers, giving them access to vantage points that traditional vehicles simply can't match. -- Jonathan "Dataweaver" Lang _______________________________________________ GurpsNet-L mailing list <[email protected]> http://mail.sjgames.com/mailman/listinfo/gurpsnet-l
